How to make hydro smaller ( and better )

Hydropower is a major source of renewable and reliable electricity, but needs massive dams that come at a huge cost to the local environment, and nearby humans. A new generation of small-scale hydro is promising the same no-emissions energy, without the large-scale impact. We take a look at three contenders: the vortex power plant, the hydrokinetic turbine, and osmotic power.
